Joan Ann Poquette. 80, Carney, died July 5, 2011, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, Powers.

Joan Vaughn was born April 8, 1931, in Manistique to the late Tom and Bernadeen Vaughn. On Aug. 1, 1953, she married Marvin Poquette in Manistique. Survivors include her husband Marvin of Carney. She enjoyed bowling, going to baseball games and traveling. She was a member of St. Bruno's Catholic Church, Nadeau.

Visitation will be held July 12 at St. Bruno's Catholic Church from 3 p.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 4 p.m. Father Michael Vichich will officiate. Burial will be in Nadeau Township Cemetery. Anderson-Diehm Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Antone (Tony) Zemba, Bark River, died July 2, 2011, at The Emmons Foster Care Home, Bark River.

He was born in Bagley July 18, 1918, the son of John and Mary (Dylong) Zemba. He attended the Adams School in Nadaeu. Most of his adult life was spent in Evanston, IL. He moved to Bark River in 2002. He entered the Army July 9, 1942, and was discharged Dec. 14, 1945. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe receiving the Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Arrowhead. He worked on the family farm in Bagley and was also a milk truck driver. After moving to Evanston he became chief operating engineer for the Evanston Hospital for over 42 years, retiring in 1989. Tony married Ludmilla Jorasz Aug. 17, 1946, at St. George's Church, Bark River. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Bark River.

He is survived by his wife of Bark River; brother-in-law, Clarence Sikorski, New Jersey, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held July 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Bark River. Visitation will also continue July 8 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. EDT at the funeral home until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. EDT, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating. Burial will be in the Bark River Cemetery.

Tom Winter, 80, Menominee, died July 1, 2011, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette.

Tom was born June 14, 1931, in Stephenson, to the late Carl and Myrtle (Lillyroot) Winter. On July 24, 1954, he married Pat Kowalewski at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marinette. He worked as an exhibit technician for the Oshkosh Public Museum for 27 years. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, lumberjacking and trapping. Tom held the Wisconsin State record for the largest sturgeon taken on a hook and line. He is known for his wood carvings and was published in many books for his duck decoys and fish carvings, one of which is Decoys of the Winnebago Lakes.

He is survived by his wife of Menominee; two daughters, Diane (Joe) Dulak, Menominee, and Darlene (Dennis) Tritt, Oshkosh; a son, Paul (Maud Suselbeek) Winter, Butte des Morts, WI, five grandchildren, one great-grandson; brother, Bill (Betty) Winter, Stephenson; and a sister, Jan (Ken) Poisson, Stephenson.

Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, July 10, after 12 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service. Deacon Vincent Beckley will officiate. A gathering to celebrate Tom's life will follow at American Legion Post No. 43 in Stephenson.

Shane Patrick Whalen, 30, died June 17, 2011, at his home in Charleston, Il.

Shane was born May 12, 1981, in Danville, IL, to Dr. Cornelius and Mary Lynn (Gondek) Whalen. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Sean and Brendan, all of Charleston; his grandmother, Dorothy S. Gondek, Menominee, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Edward J. and Loretta Whalen and Thad A. Gondek.

Gerald Michael Thoune, 87, Leicester, NC, died July 2, 2011.

A native of Stephenson, he was the son of the late Frank and Isabelle Thoune. A resident of Buncombe County since 1993, he was an employee of Sam's Club and was a musician.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene Badish Thoune; a son, Darwin Michael (Susan) Thoune, Asheville, NC; two daughters, Diane Harris, Leicester, and Annette (Doug) Kelly, Bowling Green, KY; three brothers, Lloyd (Kathleen) Thoune, and Milton Thoune, both of Stephenson, and Raymond (Sandra) Thoune, Menominee; one sister, Sarah Rivard, Daggett; six grandchildren, and two great-grand children.

Funeral services were held July 5 at Candler House of Prayer, Pastor Malcolm McCarson officiated. Burial was at Pisgah View Memorial Park. An online register is available at www.penlandandsonsfuneralhome.com

Emma Sue Agnes Polazzo, infant daughter of Mark and Becky Polazzo of Elkhorn, WI, died July 1, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital Madison, WI. She is survived by her parents; sister, Ava, grandparents, Richard Lesperance (Pat), Stephenson, Marge Phillips, Escanaba, Bill Polazzo (Jean), Hermansville; and great-grandma, Mae Phillips, Norway, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandmother, Patricia A. Lesperance.

Audrey J. (Berger) Kuk, 82, Beaver Creek Township, MI, died at her home June 19, 2011. She was formerly of Daggett. Audrey and her husband were the former owners of Kuk's Evergreen Nursery. She was a member of the Grayling Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of 59-plus years; daughters, Nadine (DeDe) (John) Condevaux, Royal Oak, Beverly (Burpie or Baby Girl) Karpowicz, Livonia, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service was held June 23 with visitation at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.sorensonlockwood. com. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grayling Church of Christ.

Geraldine B (Gerry) Heydn, 93, died June 11, 2011, at the St. Mary's Care Center, Madison, WI.

She was born Feb. 20, 1918, to Clara (Allgeyer) and Fred W. Rasner in Greenwoods, MI. She graduated from Menominee High School June 1936. Gerry continued her education in Milwaukee, where she later managed a beauty salon. She married Hans H. Heydn in June 1939. Together they owned and operated Industrial Molded Products in Madison. Gerry was an artist, a member of the Madison Art Guild and the Wisconsin Regional Artists' Association.

She is survived by a sister, Lorraine Capassela, Madison; a niece, Clara Stewart, Menominee; her daughter-in-law, Carol Heydn, Wallace, five grand children and 13 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, H. Howard Heydn, Robert M. Heydn; an infant daughter, Mary Jane; her parents and; a sister, Dorothy Tessier.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 16 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish in Madison. Burial took place June 17 at Birch Creek Cemetery, Birch Creek.

Agnes Hungerford, 97, Menominee, died June 28, 2011.

She was born April 14, 1914, in Menominee, to the late Frank and Anna (Hruska) Kleindienst. Agnes graduated from Menominee High School, Class of 1933. She worked at the county clerk's office, tract index and the Menominee Department of Social Services. She married Kenneth Hungerford Dec. 6, 1947, in Oshkosh. He preceded her in death in 1977. Agnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Menominee, and was also a member of FISH. She enjoyed playing cards at the Menominee and Marinette Senior centers and quilting.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Robert) Scherzer, Kalamazoo, and Lynn (Jim Rafferty) Chevalier, Wallace, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Josephine Paris and; two brothers, Albert and Charles Kleindienst.

Funeral services were held at the Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home, July 2. The Rev. Dale Brown officiated. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. A memorial fund has been established in Agnes's name. Checks can be made out to the First United Methodist Church, Menominee.

Joyce Virginia Bergeon, 58, Escanaba, died unexpectedly, June 28, 2011, at Marquette General Hospital.

Joyce was born Aug. 24, 1952, at Daggett Maternity Home, to the late Arthur and Rose (Dill) Zimmerman. She graduated from Carney-Nadeau Public School. On Nov. 6, 1971, she married Edward Bergeon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Escanaba. Joyce was involved in Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Thomas funeral committee, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at Christian Park, Christian Women's Club/name tag chairperson, Blue Army (Our Lord of Fatima) Prayer Cell, St. Anne's SVDP conference member and pantry worker, CCD Aide and teacher for St. Anne's Parish, Hourly Captain for Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Hospital, Hearts of Praise Prayer Group member, Cursillo member made in 2005, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Schoenstatt Movement (Our Blessed Mother Thrice Admirable) coordinator, and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of Escanaba; five sisters and two brothers, Rosemary (Joe) Kososki, Daggett, Lois Zimmerman, Escanaba, Shari (Jeff) Morgan, Acadia, IN, Art, Jr. (Lynn) Zimmerman, Colton, CA, Janie (Mark) Mignano, Temperance, MI, David (Dawn) Zimmerman, Pulaski, WI, and Chrissy (Tom Wangerin) Jenkins, Daggett; and brother-in-law, Mike Cronick, Daggett, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and; one sister, Linda Ann Cronick.

Family and friends may call at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Escanaba, July 6, from 11 a.m. EDT until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. EDT with Father Rick Courier and Father Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Oakwood. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Daniel S. Semrau, 46, Marinette, died July 1, 2011, at home from natural causes.

He was born in Hinsdale, IL, July 26, 1964, to Gene and Judy (Huffman) Semrau. He graduated from Menominee High School in 1982. He furthered his education at UW Marinette in 1986 with an Associate of Science and Business, University of St. Thomas in Minnesota in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Philosophy, University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL, with a Master of Divinity and Sacred Theology, and Silver Lake College in 2002 with a Master of Business Management and Organizational Behavior. He had worked several years in finance, and was currently employed as an instructor at the University of Phoenix.

Dan was a member of the M&M Jaycees and had held several offices. In 1998, he became a Junior Chamber International Certified National Trainer and received a JCI Senatorship. He co-founded the Menominee Animal Shelter and had served as the initial president and then treasurer. He also was in the Order of the Arrow Eagle Scout. Dan loved to learn new things and to teach others what he learned. He enjoyed traveling, volunteering, cooking, entertaining, kayaking and camping.

Dan is survived by his life partner, Doug Rossi of Marinette; parents, Gene and Judy Semrau of Menominee; sister, Cindy Semrau of Oconto; ‘dopted sister, Heidi (Tom) Morrison, Minneapolis, MN; maternal grandmother, Ann Huffman of Menominee; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul and Arlene Semrau and maternal grandfather, James Huffman.

Friends and family may call at Thielen Funeral Home July 9 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gail Simmons officiating.
