Gerald George DeGrave, 82, Wilson, died May 15, 2010. He was born March 19, 1928, in Gourley Township (Wilson), son of the late George DeGrave and Rose Pirlot. Gerald married Betty Rumptz July 19, 1979, in Sandusky, MI. He lived in the U.P. for years working on the farm, in the woods and later as a truck driver. He later moved to lower Michigan to the Marlette area. He worked in the woods and later owned and operated a pellet business. In 1994, he returned to the U.P. and lived in Wilson. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed sports.
He is survived by his wife; six children, Monte (Marie) DeGrave, Wilson, Terry (Brenda) DeGrave, Kelly (Sheri) DeGrave, and Cindy Collar, all of Tennessee, Shelby (Melvin) Gillen of Wisconsin, and Doug (Deb) DeGrave, Wilson; five step-children, Bill (Mary) Rumptz, Georgia, Kerri (Will) Boyne, Colorado, Kim (Brian) McGinnis, and Rob (Lynn) Rumptz, both of Marlette, 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin (Penny) DeGrave, Bark River; step-brother, Dale (Judy) DeGrave, Bark River; and step-father, Harvey Coxey, Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Gayle.

Florence M. Eckert, 91, Menominee, died May 20, 2010, at the Luther Home, Marinette.
She was born March 12, 1919, in Birch Creek, to the late Ernest and Nellie (Andersen) Hackmen. She married Francis Eckert Sept. 1, 1938, in Menominee. He preceded her in death March 1994. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Menominee, and Catholic Foresters. She en joyed working in her flower garden.
She is survived by four daughters, Barb Schiff, Nancy (Don) Bourgeois and Mary (Mark) Ecker, all of Menominee, and Patti (Jack) LeMay, Eagan, MN; one son, Raymond (Barbara) Eckert, Stephenson; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and her husband, she was pre ceded in death by her grand son, Tom; great-grand daughter, Jackie; three sis ters, and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered May 24 at the Holy Spirit Church, Menominee. The Rev. Fr. Ron Skufca officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. A memorial fund has been established in Florence's name for the Menominee Catholic Schools, checks can be made payable to: MCC or the Animal Shelter. The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home assisted the family. |
Chester Raymond Ostrenga, 82, W5722 Sobieski Road, Wallace, died May 23, 2010, at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette.
He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Chicago to the late Stanley, Sr., and Anna (Kozikowski) Ostrenga. On April 18, 1948, he married Virginia Dawydko in St. Adelbert's Catholic Church, Menominee. Chester ran his own dairy farm for 50 years in addition to working at Menominee Paper Mill for 33 years. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary's Mission Church in Sobieski. He enjoyed farming, hunting fishing and gardening but especially enjoyed spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife Virginia Ostrenga of Wallace; one daughter, Barbara Beaudo, Wallace; one son, Daniel (Paula) Ostrenga of Wallace; four grandchildren; twin great-granddaughters; two brothers, Stanley, Jr., (Connie) Ostrenga and Arthur (Vicki) Ostrenga, both of Wallace, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Lawrence (Ted) Beaudo.
Visitation: May 26, 9-11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Birch Creek; Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.; Fr. Joseph Vandannor, officiating; burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Anderson-Kell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
Anthony (Tony) Stuppnig, Sr., 83, Menominee died May 18, 2010, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center, Peshtigo.
He was the first born of Austrian immigrants in Iron Mountain, June 12, 1926. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1943. He worked for the Zenith Corporation in Chicago for a few years, and then joined the United States Navy and served as a Water Tender Third Class to assist with the transporta tion of supplies and assist with the post occupation of Japan during WWII. Following military service, he relocated back to Iron Mountain, where he started work at the water filtration plant. He married Lois Anne Lorenzoni of Vulcan in March of 1951. In October of 1956, he accepted a position with the Menominee Water Works where he worked his way up to plant superintendent. He retired in 1990 after 43 years in the water filtration industry. Tony and his wife Lois en joyed bike riding, visiting their cabin near Shakey Lakes, garage sales, and spending time with their family and friends. He is survived by his wife; their sons, Mark (Margie) Stuppnig, Marinette, and Anthony (Susan) Stuppnig II, Burnsville, MN; and brother, Rudolph (Connie) Stuppnig, Charlotte, NC, four grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Lorraine Scott, West Palm Beach, FL, Shirley Manacor, and Violet Lorenzoni, Vulcan, and Margaret Lorenzoni, Green Bay, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Laura Stuppnig; and his sis ter, Laura Grace Rauth.
Visitation was held at Resurrection Parish, Menominee. The Mass of Christian Burial was cele brated there May 22, with Father Robb Jurkovich offi ciating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. Funeral arrangements were handled by Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home, Peshtigo. |
John L. Wozniak, 62, Menominee, died May 21, 2010, at home.
He was born July 17, 1947, to the late Walter and Ethel (Dodsworth) Wozniak in Chicago. He graduated from high school and went on to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War in the 73rd Armor in Korea. He enjoyed spending time up at camp hunting and being free. He also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He is survived by two brothers, Michael (Heidi) Wozniak and Gerald (Sherry) Wozniak, both of Menominee; a sister, Shirley Wozniak, Marinette, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Smith. Friends called at Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home, where funeral services were held May 25. The Deacon Vince Beckley offi ciated. A memorial fund has been established in John's name. |
Dahla I. Wurth, 95, Menominee, died May 16, 2010, at Stuart, FL.
She was born July 8, 1914, in Carney, to the late Rudolph and Sadie (Dessart) Gustafson. She married Joseph M. Wurth Aug. 15, 1936, in Escanaba. He preceded her in death May 19, 1966. She was a bookkeeper in the family-owned Wurth Concrete business. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Menominee. Dahla loved to play cards and spend winters in Florida. She is survived by two sons, Joseph (Marilyn) Wurth, Stuart, FL, and Donald (Donna) Wurth, Menominee, five grandchil dren, and seven great-grand children. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Honoring Dahla's wishes, private family services were held. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home assisted the family. |
