Stella F. Bal, 93, Powers, died June 9, 2010, at her home.

She was born Jan. 30, 1917, to the late Stanley and Agnes (Jeskievich) Setlock in Vulcan.
On Sept. 17, 1938, she married the late Henry Bal in Norway.
Stella loved volunteering at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility over the years, knitting, crocheting, doing her own yard work, cooking Polish food and spending time with family.
She was a member the St. Anne's Society and St. John Neumann Church.

She is survived by three children, Donald (Janice) Bal, Barbara (John) Hafeman and Dianne Williams; one brother, Walter (Vicki) Setlock; one sister-in-law, Nancy Setlock; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant daughter, two brothers, Matt and Edward Setlock; and one sister-in-law, Isabel Setlock.

Friends called at Allo Coolman Funeral Home, Spalding.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 12 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating.
Burial will take place in the Norway Township Cemetery.
A memorial will be established and memorials may be made out to the family of Stella Bal.

Selma Helen Graves, 93, died June 14, 2010.

She was the daughter of Robert and Natalie (Silin) Kruhmin, born in Melrose Park, IL, Dec. 9, 1916. She moved to Michigan at a young age. She married Charles Graves May 3, 1941. She resided on a farm in rural Menominee County. Selma was a member of Central Baptist Church, Stephenson, where she was involved in Awana, nursery care and the Missionary Society. As a 4-H leader for many years she taught local girls, including her daughters, the art of sewing.
After moving to Suttons Bay she joinied the Keswick United Methodist Church, where she once again served in the nursery, helped with the church newsletter, and frequently provided home made edibles to the delight of the members. She loved gardening, feeding and watching the birds, reading, baking and quilting. She en joyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and activ ities at The Friendship Community Center for se niors in Suttons Bay.

She is survived by her eight children, daughters, Dr. Charlene (Stephen) Dunlop, Indianapolis, IN, Marilyn Graves, Madison, Vivian Graves Olive, Clarkston, MI, Dianne (Robert) Gregory, Traverse City, MI, and Karen (Robert) Spaulding, Lake Leelanau, and sons, Ronald (Deborah), Bedford, NH, Alan (Barbara), Columbus, OH, and Brian (Virginia) Graves, St. Paul, MN, 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Kruhmin; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Kruhmin.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Mildred Lindfors; brother, Rudolph Kruhmin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dunlop; and great-granddaughter, Vivian Gregory.

Friends and family visited June 17 at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay.
Services will be held at Keswick United Methodist Church, Suttons Bay, June 18, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour before at the church.
Committal will take place June 19 at the Stephenson Township Cemetery, Stephenson.
Memorials may be directed to Keswick United Methodist Church or The Friendship Community Center, Suttons Bay.

Mary Ann Kass, 77, Powers, died June 9, 2010, at Cedargrove Medical Care Facility, Powers.

She was born Feb. 3, 1933, to the late John and Elsie (Bauerle) Rohde in Freeport, IL.
On May 26, 1956, she married the late Robert Kass in Freeport.
Mary is a 1953 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She later worked as a night supervisor at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility for over 25 years, retiring in  1997. She was a member of St. John Neumann Church and a member of the Red Hat Society. Mary enjoyed reading, gardening, doing ceramics, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by five children, Edward (Judith) Kass, David (Carol) Kass, Richard (Mary Kay) Kass, Michael Kass and Kathleen (David) Droege; one brother, Stephen (Mara) Rohde; one sister, Helen (Brent) Raders, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Kaitlynn Droege; and one brother, John Rohde.

Friends called at St. John Neumann Church, Spalding.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated there June 14 with Fr. Emmett Norden officiating.
Burial was in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
A memorial will be established and donations may be made to the family of Mary Kass.
The Allo Coolman Funeral Homes assisted the family.
 
Donald Mattson PDF Print E-mail
Donald R. Mattson, 76, Menominee, died June 11, 2010, at Rennes Health Center East, Peshtigo.

He was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Lake Forest, IL, to Andrew and Emma Mattson.
He attended school in the Half Day, Illinois area, graduating from Libertyville High School in 1951. He attended the Chicago School of Engineering. He came to this area to work as an engineer for Anchor Coupling in Menominee.
He enjoyed sailing, deer hunting, and living in his home on Fairland Loop.

He is survived by his wife, Lee; one son, George; one daughter, Lori; step-chil dren, Steven (Deborah) Johnson, and Shari (Jim) Eide; three brothers, Arthur Mattson, Charles (Joan) Mattson, and George Mattson, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 19 in First Presbyterian Church, Menominee. The Rev. A. Ronald Helgerson will officiate.
Memorial contributions in Donald's name may be made to the Menominee Animal Shelter.

Jeanette Marie Paulson, 88, Wallace, died June 14, 2010.

Marjorie (Pat) E. Schneider, 91, Menominee, died June 13, 2010, at the Menominee Care Center.

Marjorie Peterson was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Menominee, to the late Axel and Etta (Chamberlain) Peterson.
She married Ben Schneider June 10, 1939, in Menominee. He preceded her in death Feb. 1, 2000. Pat was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Birch Creek and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She cherished the time spent with family and friends. She also was an avid bowler.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Linda) and Ronald (Sue), both of Menominee; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church June 18 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Joseph Vandannoor will officiate.
Burial will be in the Birch Creek Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Pat's name.
The Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Dian Lyn Thoune, 51, Ravenna, MI, died May 28, 2010, at Metro Hospital, Grand Rapids.

She was born Nov. 16, 1958, in Fremont, MI, to James and Carol (Sindle) Hughey. She mar ried Paul J. Thoune Aug. 9, 2005, in Muskegon, MI.

Dian is survived by her husband, Paul, Ravenna; father, James Hughley, Sr., Hesperia; three sons, Jeramy (Valarie) Lockard, Grand Haven, Theodore Tyler and Dakota Thoune, both of Ravenna, two grandchildren; five brothers, Howard, Mike, Jim, Mike and Bob; three sisters, Mary, Joanie and Julie, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kevin Scott Wieting, 51, Crivitz, died at home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1959, in Marinette, to Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Agnes Votava) Wieting.
He worked for M.J. Electric for many years be fore retiring due to an injury.

He is survived by one son, William (Lacey) Wieting, Menominee; seven brothers and four sisters, Donald (Suzy), Green Bay, Beverly Shepro (Friend, Ken), West Bend, Janet (Donald) Deschaine, Arlington, WA, Al (Holly), Mischicot, James (Marion), Wausaukee, Robert (Karen), Mosinee, Sharon (David (Schwartz, Louis (Theresa), Gary (Carol), Richard (Sue), all of Crivitz, and Mrs. Tina Howard, Middle Inlet; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Cheryl Wieting, Medford.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert John, his parents; a sister, Ann Schue; a brother, Jeffery Wieting; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Shepro and Tim Howard.

Visitation and funeral were held June 15 at Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home, Crivitz.
