Eva K. Bastien, 90, Stephenson, died Jan. 11, 2010, at Roubal Care and Rehab Center.

Eva Mikrut was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Duluth, MN, to the late Marcoe and Anna (Thomasic) Mikrut. On Nov. 23, 1939, she married Carl Bastien in Duluth, MN. He preceded her in death in 1983. Eva loved golfing, reading and traveling. She especially enjoyed loving and caring for her children. In her younger years she enjoyed taking walks with her husband Carl. She was very active in Farm Bureau for many years and was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim (Judy) Stephenson, Peter, Washington, D.C., and Patrick (Barbara), Oshkosh, WI, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Helen Swiderski, and Margaret Gardonio, Duluth, and Loretta Vormwald, Dallas, TX; and one brother, Michael Mikrut, Coon Rapids, MN.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Frank and George Mikrut.

Visitation will be held Jan. 15 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Roy James Beno, 70, Stephenson, died Jan. 9, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital, Iron Mountain.

Roy was born Feb. 28, 1939, on the family farm in Gardner, MI, to the late John and Veronica (Mathais) Beno. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Gardner. He served in the United States Marine Corp., serving one tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan, serving as a supply clerk. On July 14, 1973, he married Bonnie Johnson. Roy was an area businessman who owned and operated a gas station in Menominee. He also worked in the forestry industry, and was a self-taught taxidermist. He was an avid coin collector, hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 43, Stephenson, and the Triple C bike club.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, Stephenson; three daughters, Debbie Mullins, Cindy Beno and Royal (Jim) Zeraski; son, Dan Beno; step-son, Chris Wery; step-daughter, Christine (Scott) Hafeman, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Echols, Barb Hollo, and Sandie Woods; one brother, John Beno, Jr., nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank; two sisters, Rose DeLaurelle and Mary Beno; and his in-laws, Walter and Marion Johnson.

Family and friends may call Jan. 13 at the Stephenson United Methodist Church after 4 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. followed by Memorial Service at 6 p.m. Reverend John Lindt officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Banat.
Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sally Ann (Smith) Bragg, 49, died Dec. 10, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital, Colorado Springs, CO.

Sal was born Jan. 15, 1960, in Menominee to Clarence (Duke) and Janise Smith.
She was a 1978 graduate of Menominee High School. She attended Vocational Technical Institute earning a degree in fashion merchandising. Following her graduation, she joined the US Air Force and served honorably for 20 years, during which time she earned the Air Force Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Force Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. Sal returned to duty with the Air Force and served in the Civil Service at Peterson Air Force Base for five years. Sal was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1887 since the age of 16. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting Shirley Temple memorabilia, skiing, billiards, softball and going to the casino. She married Dennis Bragg July 12, 1996. They enjoyed many hobbies and most of all, enjoyed time spent with their sons.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, John Duke and Stephan; her mother, Janise; and sib lings, Dale (Michele) Smith, Patti (Bill) Nerat, Darrell (Polly) Smith, Connie Frustere, Todd (Jenny) Smith and Tammy Smith (Jeff), nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

A celebration of Sal's life will be held Jan. 15 (50th birthday) will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Menominee, officiated by Pastor Douglas Schoen. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. preceded by VFW Auxiliary Service at 10:45 a.m. Military rights will be conducted by the 20-Year Club. A full military service was held in Colorado Springs Dec. 14.
A memorial fund will be established.
 
Kenneth Herson PDF Print E-mail
Kenneth Douglass Herson, 74, W6280 No. 10 Road, Menominee, died Jan. 10, 2010, at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center, Green Bay.

Ken was born May 10, 1935, in Menominee, to the late Ben and Mary (Boehm) Herson. He was a graduate of the Menominee High School, Class of 1953. On Aug. 3, 1957, he married Nancy Rickinson at St. William's Catholic Church, Menominee.

After his high school graduation, he worked as a linotype operator at the Great Lakes Naval Station from 1953-57. From 1957-60, he was a shipping clerk at Johnson Outboard Motors in Waukegan, IL. In 1960, he went to work at The Motor Company in Marinette, as parts manager, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the Menominee-Ingallston Fire Department from 1962-2002. He served as fire chief for 12 years and as assistant fire chief for 17 years. He was an avid Packer Fan and a past member of the Whitetails Unlimited as well as the Menominee Township Board of Review. Ken enjoyed hunting, including his trips to Quebec, Wyoming and Alabama, as well as spending time at his camp, where he loved watching and feeding the deer and birds. He also enjoyed watching high school sport, umpiring Little League, Babe Ruth, and Legion baseball games, and being an official at Stephenson High School track meets. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and relatives and his monthly breakfast at the Little Nugget with the re tired firefighters. Ken had a passion for doing printing on his printing press.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kevin (Donna) Herson and Keith Herson; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Lois) Herson; five sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin Marie Herson; three brothers, Raymond, Floyd and Richard Herson; and three brothers-in-law.

Family and friends may call Jan. 14 from 3-6 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 6 p.m. in the church, with Father Ronald Skufca officiating.
Burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery, Wallace.

Rita Joy Lagerstedt, 78, Daggett, died Jan. 6, 2010, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.

Rita Sarapu was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Chicago, to the late Edward and Melanie Sarapu. In 1951 she married Wallace Lagerstedt. He preceded her in death June 11, 2003. She was a homemaker and enjoyed needle pointing, cooking, painting and watching wildlife.

She is survived by one son, Glen (Dawn) Lagerstedt, Carol Stream, IL; and one sister, Anita Otis, Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dale Lagerstedt; and her husband.

In keeping with Rita's wishes no services were held. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, assisted the family with arrangements.
 
Carl Pogrant PDF Print E-mail
Carl Bernard Pogrant, 81, Menominee, died Jan. 10, 2010.

Carl was born July 21, 1928, in Grover, WI, to the late William and Marie (Elert) Pogrant.
Carl served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He married Joan Lemke Sept. 12, 1953, in Menominee. She preceded him in death July 28, 2006. He worked as an instrument technician at the former Scott Paper Company, Marinette. He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Menominee, and also served on the church council. He currently was serving on the board of directors at the Tri-City Credit Union. He also was a past member of the Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc. Board of Directors and a past president of the Menominee City Council, including acting mayor.

He is survived by one daughter, Lana (William) Campbell; one son, Steve (Joyce) Pogrant, both of Menominee; three grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.
Along with his  wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelsey Pogrant; and four brothers, Kenneth, Bob, John and Bill.

Memorial services for Carl will be held at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Menominee, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of ser vices. The Rev. Paul Cole will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee.

A memorial fund has been established in Carl's name for the Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc.
The Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Betty Lee (Bee) (Klitzke) Radcliff, Pagosa Springs, CO, died Dec. 4, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer.

Betty Lee Homernik was born Feb. 11, 1953, to Fritz and Dorothy Homernik in Marinette.
She graduated from Stephenson High School in 1971. She married Donald A. Klitzke March 3, 1973. They divorced in 1990. She married Stanley Radcliff May 25, 1995.

She is survived by her husband, Stan; three children, Donnie (Brook) Klitzke, Luke (Jessica) Klitzke, and Eve Klitzke (Jeremey Lowenstein), 10 grandchildren; brothers, David, Charlie, Guy, Tim and Bobby Homernik, and their families; her Michigan family, Donald and Evelyn Klitzke, Judy (Craig) Francour, Carol (Tom) Oczus, Barb (Jim) Leaveck, Guy (Susan) Klitzke, Mary (Dale) Walcher, Tammy Van Domelen, and Lisa Klitzke, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Paul Van Domelen.

A memorial service was held Dec. 11 in Pagosa Springs.
